HISTORY OF
The Jones
Falls Mills
Today’s Jones Falls Mills were originally known as the Mt. Vernon Mill. They were built between 1845 and 1918 by the Mount Vernon Company to keep up with demand for their popular and reliable cotton duck fabric.
The complex and company grew as requests rolled in for cotton duck sails, uniforms, tents, and army parachutes. In fact, the Mount Vernon Company was the world’s largest producer of cotton duck fabric in world by the second half of the 19th century.
Today, the collection of buildings is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
